Governor Alex Otti has voiced strong satisfaction with the ongoing construction of the Umuahia Central Bus Terminal, describing the quality of work and pace as impressive as the ambitious project edges closer to completion.
During a hands-on inspection tour on Wednesday, Otti walked through the site at Isi-gate, engaging directly with workers and officials. He explained that the terminal is designed to consolidate the city's scattered transport parks into one modern hub, eliminating the chaos of multiple loading points and improving efficiency for commuters.
"We're creating a centralized system here in Umuahia, just like the one underway in Aba, which we hope to wrap up by May,"
Otti told journalists. Drawing inspiration from global models like London's Paddington Terminal, he emphasized features that will blend transportation with amenities such as hotels, shopping areas, and recreational spaces.
Accompanied by federal lawmaker Obi Aguocha, representing Ikwuano/Umuahia, and Kingsley Agomuo, General Manager of the Umuahia Capital Development Authority, the governor extended his tour to nearby road projects, including works around Cooperatives and the Ahiaeke-Okwuta-Bende Road.
He urged contractors to push for timely finishes ahead of the rainy season. In a relatable moment, Otti boarded one of the state's new Abia Green Electric Buses — launched late last year for free public rides — joining passengers on a trip toward Ohafia to check service quality firsthand.
Residents and transporters have welcomed the developments, seeing them as part of Otti's broader push to modernize Abia's infrastructure and boost economic activity. With completion in sight, the terminal promises to transform daily travel in the state capital.
