Businessman Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Murder of His Wife in South Africa

 In a brutal overnight raid, Boko Haram terrorists descended on several remote communities in Adamawa State's Hong Local Government Area, killing at least 14 residents and torching shops, homes, and vital food stores. 

The attack, which unfolded late on December 29 into the early hours of December 30, targeted the villages of Zah, Mubang Yadul, and Kijing, sending shockwaves throughout  a region still reeling from years of insurgency.

Local government chairman Hon. Inuwa Usman Wa’aganda confirmed the devastation, describing how the militants stormed the villages under cover of darkness. "They came in large numbers, shooting indiscriminately and setting everything ablaze," he told reporters. Wa’aganda noted that while initial reports put the death toll at eight with four others missing, community leaders and survivors later recovered more bodies, pushing the confirmed fatalities to 14. Many families are still searching for loved ones amid the chaos.

Eyewitnesses recounted scenes of terror as gunfire echoed through the night. Shops packed with goods and granaries filled with harvested crops—lifelines for these farming communities—went up in flames, leaving residents with nothing. "We lost everything we worked for this year," said one displaced villager who fled to nearby areas.

 "The food stores are gone, and now hunger stares us in the face on top of the grief.

"The raid comes just days after similar incursions in the same district, including attacks on Garaha and Mayo Ledde during the Christmas period that claimed soldiers' lives and displaced hundreds. Hong LGA, bordering Borno State's notorious Sambisa Forest—a known Boko Haram hideout—has long been vulnerable to such strikes. Security forces arrived after the militants had withdrawn, but patrols have since been stepped up.

Rights groups and locals are calling for urgent government aid, including relief supplies and stronger military presence to prevent further bloodshed. As families bury their dead and rebuild from ashes, the incident underscores the persistent threat posed by Boko Haram remnants in Nigeria's northeast, despite ongoing counter-insurgency efforts.
