In a significant move to push forward development amid ongoing challenges, the Rivers State Executive Council has given the nod to a hefty ₦1.8 trillion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year.
The approval came during a council meeting on Friday, chaired by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, with his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, in attendance.
Speaking to journalists afterward, the newly appointed Special Adviser on Economic Matters and Social Development, Professor Peter Medee, revealed the exact figure stands at ₦1,854,248,734,475.76. He described the budget as carefully crafted to wrap up ongoing projects, settle outstanding commitments, and kickstart fresh initiatives in vital areas like infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, human capacity building, culture, tourism, and information technology.Dubbed the "Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development," it reflects the administration's determination to recover lost ground, restore confidence, and promote inclusive progress.
Professor Medee emphasized that Governor Fubara's team remains steadfast in delivering on promises to the people, even as the state navigates economic and political hurdles.Joining the briefing were Dr. Honour Sirawoo, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communications, and Barrister Frank Fubara, the new Special Adviser on Finance.
The proposal is now set to be forwarded to the Rivers State House of Assembly for review and passage in the coming weeks.This ambitious spending plan underscores the government's focus on resilience and tangible results, signaling a year geared toward steady growth and better service delivery for Rivers residents.
