Governor Fubara Urges Calm Amid Political Tensions: "Don't Let Barking Dogs Distract Us

Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has called on residents to stay focused and undeterred by ongoing political noise, emphasizing that his administration remains clear-headed and fully prepared for the road ahead.

Speaking at a New Year state banquet held at Government House in Port Harcourt on January 1, Governor Fubara addressed the lingering rivalry with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, who has been vocal in recent criticisms.

Drawing on a metaphor attributed to Julius Caesar, Fubara told attendees, "Don't be disturbed by what is happening. The only reason a dog barks is when it doesn't understand. If you have a dog in your house and it knows you, it doesn't need to bark.

We are not barking because we understand the journey. We know where we are going, and we have made every provision."The governor's remarks come as tensions in Rivers State politics show no signs of easing into the new year.

Fubara reflected on the challenges of 2025, describing them as tough but ultimately strengthening for his team. He assured supporters that faith in God and a commitment to good governance have been key to surviving the storms, adding that those who stood by his administration would soon feel proud of their choice.

Looking ahead, Fubara promised a stronger push on development in 2026, vowing to make up for any lost time and deliver tangible results for Rivers people.

He also expressed optimism about national leadership, predicting a win for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections while thanking him for past support.
