Kano State is in deep shock and mourning after two serving members of the Kano State House of Assembly died just hours apart on Wednesday, December 24, 2025. The first to pass was Hon. Aminu Saad Ungogo, the representative for the Ungogo Constituency, whose death was announced earlier in the day by the Special Adviser on Information to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf via social media.
Barely an hour later, news broke that Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who represented the Kano Municipal Constituency, had also died. His passing was confirmed by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director of Media at the Kano Government House, in a separate online announcement, leaving colleagues and residents stunned by the back-to-back losses.
Both lawmakers were active members of the state assembly and served their constituencies until their sudden deaths. At the time of reporting, official causes of death had not been disclosed, and details were still emerging. The near-simultaneous nature of their passing has sent ripples through Kano’s political circles, with tributes pouring in from fellow legislators, community leaders, and residents alike.
Governor Yusuf and other state officials have been offering condolences to the families and constituents of the deceased, describing the events as a significant loss for the legislative arm of government in Kano.
