Trump says US launched ‘numerous’ deadly strikes on terrorists in Nigeria

Former United States President Donald Trump has claimed that the US military carried out “numerous” deadly airstrikes against terrorist targets in Nigeria, describing the operations as part of Washington’s broader fight against global extremism.

Trump made the assertion while speaking at a political event in the United States, where he highlighted what he called decisive military actions taken during his administration. According to him, the strikes were aimed at eliminating terrorist elements operating in parts of Nigeria and weakening their capacity to carry out attacks.

His remarks have drawn renewed attention to the long-running security challenges in Nigeria, particularly the insurgency led by Boko Haram and its offshoot, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), in the North-East. Nigeria has for years worked with international partners, including the United States, on intelligence sharing, training and counter-terrorism support.

Reacting to the comments, security analysts noted that the US has historically supported Nigeria through surveillance, logistics and limited military assistance, especially during the administrations of former presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan. However, direct US combat strikes on Nigerian soil have rarely been publicly acknowledged.

The Nigerian government has yet to officially respond to Trump’s statement. Observers say the Comments may reignite debate over the extent of foreign military involvement in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations and the importance of transparency in security cooperation.
