Eyewitnesses said the landlord had confronted the tenant over the unpaid electricity bill, insisting that all occupants must settle their outstanding charges to avoid disconnection by the power distribution company. What began as a heated argument reportedly escalated when the tenant became aggressive, leading to a physical confrontation between both men.
According to sources, the tenant allegedly picked up a sharp object during the scuffle and stabbed the landlord, inflicting fatal injuries. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital by residents, but was confirmed dead on arrival by medical personnel.
The Delta State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody while investigations continue. The police described the killing as unfortunate and avoidable, urging residents to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes rather than resorting to violence.
Meanwhile, community leaders have condemned the act and called for calm, stressing the need for dialogue and tolerance in resolving landlord-tenant disagreements. The body of the deceased has been deposited at a mortuary, while the suspect is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
