Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has approved a ₦50 million grant for 1,000 women in Ogun State as part of efforts to strengthen women-owned businesses and support grassroots economic growth. The grant, disbursed under the Renewed Hope Initiative, is aimed at helping women traders, artisans and small-scale entrepreneurs expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
The presentation took place in Abeokuta and was coordinated in collaboration with the Ogun State Government. Speaking on behalf of the First Lady, officials explained that each beneficiary would receive financial support to boost existing ventures or start new ones, particularly in agriculture, trading and services.
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, praised Senator Tinubu for what he described as a practical intervention that directly touches the lives of ordinary women. He said the initiative aligns with the state’s focus on inclusive development and poverty reduction. The governor’s wife, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, also commended the programme, noting that empowering women economically has a ripple effect on families and communities.
Some beneficiaries, who include market women and young entrepreneurs, expressed gratitude, saying the grant would ease financial pressure and help them grow their businesses. The Renewed Hope Initiative, championed by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, continues to roll out similar empowerment programmes across states, with a focus on women, youths and vulnerable groups.
