Emmanuel Isichei Ugochukwu Ojei, widely known as Nuel Ojei, a towering figure in Nigeria's business landscape, has died at the age of 74. The founder and chief executive of Nuel Ojei Holdings Ltd passed away on Saturday night in his hometown of Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, following a brief illness.
His son, Chuks Ojei, announced the sad news in a heartfelt statement on Sunday, describing the loss as a profound shock to the family. "My father was more than a businessman; he was a builder of lives and legacies," Chuks said. He highlighted his father's role as a distinguished industrialist, entrepreneur, and magnate who shaped Nuel Ojei Holdings into a major conglomerate.Born on May 23, 1951, in Lagos, Ojei built an impressive empire starting from humble beginnings.
After early education in Lagos and technical training at Issele-Uku Technical College, he launched into the automobile sector, eventually incorporating Nuel Ojei Holdings in 1989. The group expanded into diverse fields, including oil and gas, banking, insurance, construction, telecommunications, and solid minerals, employing thousands and contributing significantly to Nigeria's economy.
Married to Ekiuwa Ojei, he leaves behind six children and a wide circle of admirers. Known for his quiet philanthropy and dedication to community development, Ojei was often praised for his low-key generosity and lasting impact.The family has requested prayers and support during this difficult time, with funeral arrangements to be announced later.
