Kaduna Trader Arrested Over Facebook Post Criticising Governor Sani’s ‘Flouting Of Tinubu’s VIP Security Order’ Released

A Kaduna-based trader, Musa Abdullahi, who was arrested over a Facebook post criticising Governor Uba Sani, has been released from police custody, days after his detention sparked public outrage and debate on freedom of expression.

Abdullahi, a phone accessories dealer at Sheikh Abubakar Gumi Market, was reportedly picked up by security operatives last Friday after he made a post on his personal Facebook page accusing Governor Sani of allegedly flouting President Bola Tinubu’s directive on the use of VIP security details. In the post, Abdullahi questioned the size of the governor’s convoy and described it as being at odds with the president’s call for modesty among public office holders.

Family members said Abdullahi was invited by officers attached to the Kaduna State Police Command and later detained for several hours without formal charges. His arrest triggered criticism from civil society groups and social media users, who described the action as an attempt to intimidate citizens for expressing opinions online.

Confirming his release on Monday, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, said Abdullahi was granted bail after questioning, adding that investigations had been concluded without finding grounds for prosecution.

Speaking after his release, Abdullahi said he never intended to insult the governor, insisting that his post was a personal opinion made in good faith as a concerned citizen.

The incident has renewed calls for restraint by security agencies and respect for free speech, especially in matters of public accountability.
