As the clock strikes midnight welcoming 2026, Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has delivered a powerful New Year message urging every Nigerian to turn their backs on corruption and embrace a fresh commitment to integrity.
Speaking from Abuja on December 31, 2025, Olukoyede emphasized that the country's true progress in the coming year hinges on collective action against graft. "2026 offers us all a new chance to recommit to transparency, accountability, and honest conduct," he said. "Real development — stronger economy, better lives for our people — can only happen when we dedicate ourselves to rejecting corruption in all its forms.
"Olukoyede, who has led the EFCC with a focus on both prevention and enforcement since his appointment, assured citizens that the agency is more determined than ever.
"We'll build on our successes from 2025 and go even harder after those undermining our nation," he promised, noting that EFCC officers remain relentless in dismantling networks of economic crime. He also called on Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope agenda, describing it as a blueprint that can restore faith in Nigeria's future if backed by an unwavering anti-corruption stance.
"This fight isn't just for the government or the EFCC — it's everyone's responsibility," Olukoyede added. "Together, we can make 2026 the year Nigeria starts unlocking its full potential.
"The chairman's message comes amid ongoing high-profile investigations and recoveries, reinforcing his view that sustained public resolve is key to lasting change.
As fireworks light up the skies, Olukoyede wished all Nigerians a prosperous and corruption-free new year.
