China–Nigeria relations recorded notable progress in 2025, with cooperation expanding across trade, infrastructure, education and cultural exchange, according to the Consul General of China in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing.
Speaking at a recent engagement with business leaders and government officials, Yan said the partnership between both countries had continued to deepen, driven by mutual respect and shared development goals. She noted that bilateral trade volumes grew steadily in 2025, while Chinese-backed projects in transportation, energy and manufacturing created jobs and boosted local capacity in Nigeria.
“The relationship between China and Nigeria has moved beyond diplomacy. It is now delivering practical benefits to ordinary people,” Yan said, adding that Chinese companies operating in Nigeria are increasingly focusing on skills transfer and local content development.
Also speaking at the event, Hon. Jaafaru Yakubu, Chairman of the Nigeria–China Parliamentary Friendship Group, described China as one of Nigeria’s most reliable development partners. He praised ongoing collaborations in railway expansion, power projects and technology, saying they align with Nigeria’s long-term economic ambitions.
Representatives of the Lagos State Government, including officials from the Ministry of Commerce, echoed similar views, stressing that cooperation with China has helped attract investment and strengthen industrial growth.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to building on the gains recorded in 2025, with plans to explore new opportunities in digital economy, agriculture and renewable energy, further solidifying the strategic partnership between China and Nigeria.
