A 26-year-old man of Somali origin, who holds Dutch nationality, has been arrested at Frankfurt Airport in Germany on an international warrant issued by British authorities.
The suspect was detained moments after stepping off a flight from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.German federal police acted swiftly when the man, wanted since December 2023, was identified upon arrival. He stands accused of repeatedly raping his 13-year-old stepsister in 2020 while living in the United Kingdom. The allegations describe a series of serious sexual assaults against the vulnerable teenager, who was his stepsibling at the time.
Following his apprehension, the suspect was brought before a custody judge in Frankfurt. Authorities have confirmed that extradition proceedings to the UK are now underway.
However, as he has the right to contest the transfer, the process could take anywhere between 10 and 60 days, depending on whether he opts for a simplified procedure or challenges it.The case has drawn attention amid ongoing debates about cross-border justice and migrant-related crimes in Europe.
German officials emphasized that such timelines are standard in international arrest warrant cases involving EU and Interpol alerts. No name has been publicly released for the suspect, and investigations remain active as preparations for potential extradition continue.
This arrest highlights the effectiveness of international cooperation in tracking fugitives, even as the suspect faces the prospect of returning to Britain to answer the grave charges against him.
