Mubang village in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State was thrown into panic on Wednesday afternoon when a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) detonated, injuring six people.
The blast, which occurred around 2:00 p.m., sent residents fleeing in fear and heightened tensions in a community still reeling from a deadly Boko Haram raid just weeks earlier. That previous attack on December 29, 2025, targeted nearby villages in the Yadul and Garaha districts, claiming at least 14 lives and displacing many families.
Hong Local Government Council Chairman Usman Inuwa confirmed he received immediate reports of the explosion. "Yes, at about 2pm today I was informed that a bomb exploded in Mubang, under Garaha district," he told reporters, expressing deep concern over the renewed violence in the area.
The incident comes amid persistent insecurity in the northeast, where Boko Haram insurgents have long operated, frequently using IEDs to target civilians and sow fear. Authorities have yet to release the names of the injured victims, who are receiving treatment at local medical facilities. Police are investigating the cause and possible perpetrators.
Spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said he was awaiting further details from the Divisional Police Officer in Hong before providing an official update.
This latest explosion has once again underscored the fragile security situation in parts of Adamawa, leaving residents on edge as security forces intensify efforts to curb insurgent activities. Community leaders are calling for increased patrols and support to prevent further attacks in the vulnerable region.
