Gunmen Kill Policeman, Abduct Chinese Expatriate in Commando-Style Attack on Oyo Farm


 Unidentified gunmen stormed Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin, near Ibadan, Oyo State, killing a police officer and abducting a Chinese expatriate described as the principal officer of the firm.The attack unfolded in a commando-style operation around 1 p.m. on Friday, January 16, when the assailants descended on the facility, reportedly along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. 

A fierce gun battle ensued as the policeman, whose identity is yet to be officially disclosed, valiantly attempted to repel the invaders. Despite injuring some of the attackers, the officer tragically lost his life in the exchange of fire.The gunmen managed to escape with their hostage, the Chinese expatriate, who serves as a key figure at the company. 

Police sources indicate that the operation was swift and well-coordinated, highlighting the growing audacity of armed groups targeting remote and rural areas in the state.Confirming the incident, Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, described the heartbreaking loss and swift response. 

“One police officer tragically died while repelling the attack, injuring some of the assailants, and the Chinese expatriate principal was abducted,” he stated. Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna immediately directed the Assistant Commissioner in charge of Operations to lead the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical teams to the scene.

A bush-combing operation is currently underway, supported by a full-scale investigation aimed at securing the safe rescue of the abducted expatriate and apprehending those responsible. The police have urged members of the public to provide any useful information that could aid the efforts.

This incident comes amid rising security concerns in Oyo State, where armed attacks on remote locations have become more frequent in recent months. Authorities remain committed to restoring calm and ensuring the protection of lives and investments in the region.
