The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has held a crucial meeting with representatives of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) factions aligned with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the camp loyal to former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, as efforts intensify to resolve the party’s lingering leadership crisis.
The meeting, which took place at INEC headquarters in Abuja, was convened amid growing concerns over internal disputes threatening the PDP’s cohesion ahead of future electoral activities. Sources familiar with the discussions said the electoral body emphasized the need for unity, internal democracy, and strict adherence to the party’s constitution and electoral laws.
Both factions reportedly presented their positions on the leadership tussle, while INEC urged restraint and dialogue to prevent further escalation. The commission is said to be monitoring developments closely, noting that unresolved internal conflicts could affect the party’s participation in upcoming elections.
The PDP crisis, fueled by disagreements over party leadership and strategy since the 2023 general elections, has continued to draw national attention, with stakeholders calling for reconciliation to reposition the opposition party.
