Former Delta North Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi has died at the age of 68, authorities confirmed on Friday, December 19, 2025. The respected lawmaker, who represented the Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly from 2015 to 2023, passed away in Abuja after a brief illness, according to official statements.

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori expressed profound grief over Nwaoboshi’s death, describing it as a “great loss” to Delta State, the Anioma nation, and Nigeria. In a condolence message issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, the governor hailed Nwaoboshi as a “proud son of Delta” and a courageous defender of the Anioma cause whose contributions to nation-building would remain indelible.

During his political career, Nwaoboshi served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, advocating strongly for development in the oil-producing region. He also held leadership roles within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State before later joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
