Terrorists have launched a deadly attack on Rogun Village in Kpada District of Patigi Local Government Area, Kwara State, killing two security operatives.
The incident occurred late Sunday night when the terrorists, locally dubbed as bandits, stormed the police outpost in Rogun and opened fire on officers on duty.
According to a resident , the attackers engaged the security personnel in a fierce gun duel that lasted several minutes.
“The brutal attack happened in the late hours of yesterday. They targeted the police outpost in Rogun and killed two gallant officers one police constabulary and one vigilante.
panic spread across the village as the sound of gunfire echoed through the community, forcing families to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
The resident said they need a military base in Koro because the town serves as a route linking Kpada district to Isanlu in Kogi State, where terrorist attacks occur daily. Security operatives have reportedly been deployed to the area to restore calm and track down the perpetrators.
The attack adds to growing concerns over escalating terrorist activities in communities across Kwara North, where several villages have come under repeated assaults in recent months.
The incident has left the Oreke community in fear, with most residents fleeing once again as a result of repeated attacks.
A handful of residents who had returned to Oreke after being persuaded by Governor AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman, expressed shock and dismay at the audacity of the kidnappers.
The governor had assured them that the town was secure, urging residents to return and resume their normal lives. However, the abduction of two of the town’s most respected elders has shattered any sense of safety.
“Governor AbdulRahman, we greet you. Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, Femi Yusuf, we greet you too. You advised us to return after the terrorist attacks. We came back, but as you can see, the town is empty,” one resident spoke
“Although some of us returned two weeks ago, most elders only came back on Tuesday. We have been planning how to protect the town and secure military presence. But our leaders were kidnapped on their way to Baba-nla.”
Residents claim that despite repeated assurances of military and police presence, the town remains dangerously unprotected.
“The government claims to have bombed the terrorists, but we see no evidence. We have a police division, but there are no officers.
