Victim, 28, whose remains were found in suitcases in Forest of Dean named

A young woman whose dismembered body was found in two suitcases in the Forest of Dean has been named as Phoenix Netts. The 28-year-old’s remains were discovered last Tuesday night in Coleford, Gloucestershire. The exact cause of the victim’s death is still unknown, after a post-mortem examination was found inconclusive. Detectives for West Midlands Police said they are still trying to establish where Phoenix was killed, while specialist liaison officers work with her heartbroken family. Two people have been charged in connection with the murder. In a statement released by the force, her family said: ‘As a family we are devastated with what has happened to Phoenix.
‘We ask most humbly that our family’s privacy is respected whilst we grieve and come to terms with the loss of Phoenix in such tragic circumstances.

We have family and good friends supporting us and our thanks go out to all of them. ‘We would also like to thank all the police officers involved in the investigation for their hard work and sensitivity.’ Gareeca Conita Gordon, aged 27, from Birmingham, was charged with murdering a woman. Mahesh Sorathiya, aged 38, from Wolverhampton was charged with assisting an offender – Gordon. Gordon was remanded into prison, while the court granted Sorathiya conditional bail, and both are next due to appear at Bristol Crown Court on August 4.

Neither defendant appeared at Bristol Crown Court where a hearing of the case took place this morning. Mr Justice Garnham said the ‘background to this case are allegations of the most appalling type’, as he set a provisional trial date of November 10. Police had been alerted to the incident after a member of the public reported a vehicle’s erratic driving near Coleford. The vehicle was located a short while later and two suitcases were discovered containing human remains.

Gloucestershire Police previously said further examinations are ongoing to establish the cause of death.
