A representative of the donors, Prof. Femi Ajayi, said the state was one of the five beneficiaries of the group’s gesture in Nigeria.
A U.S.-based company, MedShare Incorporated of Georgia, in collaboration with Nigeria Women Association of Georgia, on Monday donated medical equipment and consumables worth $2 million to the Oyo State Government.
Presenting the items to Gov. Abiola Ajimobi at the Adeoyo Maternity Hospital in Yemetu, Ibadan, a representative of the donors, Prof. Femi Ajayi, said the state was one of the five beneficiaries of the group’s gesture in Nigeria.
Ajayi described MedShare as a humanitarian aid organisation dedicated to improving the quality of life of people, communities and the planet.
“We do this by sourcing and directly delivering surplus medical supplies and equipment to communities in need around the world.
“We help increase health system capacity and drive sustainability by providing biomedical equipment, training and services to health care organisations and medical professionals in need,” he said.
Ajayi also said that the company’s deliveries of vital medical supplies and equipment had decreased Atlanta’s carbon footprint and brought health and healing to people.
He said many patients across 97 countries had benefitted from the items donated so far.
Gov. Ajimode, while unveiling the medical equipment and consumables, thanked MedShare and NWAG for the gesture.
He said the donation was timely given the challenges being faced by the administration in the provision of quality universal coverage of health care in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the equipment were distributed across the six public hospitals in Ibadan.
The beneficiaries are Jericho Nursing Home, Jericho Specialist Hospital, Oni Memorial Children Hospital, Adeoyo State Hospital, Adeoyo Maternity Hospital and Maternal and Child health Centre, Apata.
The Chief Consultant of Adeoyo Maternity Hospital, Dr Adeyanju Alahuru, thanked the state government, MedShare and NWAG for the initiative.
