Gov. Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State says the state will establish Ebola and Lassa fever laboratories in Lafia, the state capital.

Al-Makura disclosed this when he led a World Bank representative to the proposed site of the centre, located close to the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia, on Wednesday.

The governor said that the centre would be equipped to diagnose diseases such as Ebola, Lassa fever and other haemorrhagic specimens that might be brought to the centre for diagnosis.

He explained that the proposed centre would fast track the establishment of the proposed Teaching Hospital and Medical School in the Federal University, Lafia.

He said it would also assist students of School of Nursing to carry out their practical.

Al-Makura added that the centre would equally compliment the services of the new Specialist Hospital along Shinge road in Lafia.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Dan Iya, said that the centre would cater for all encompassing research issues and medical diagnosis even beyond the state.

Iya said that the centre would be one of the best in the northern region.

According to him, other states and health centres outside the state will be encouraged to bring their specimens for diagnosis to the centre.
