Alhaji Ali Safiyanu, Information Officer of Buji Local Government in Jigawa says the council has vaccinated over 40,000 children against polio in the just concluded immunisation programme in the area.
Safiyanu made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Saturday.
He said that the Manager of National Programme on Immunisation (NPI) in the council, Alhaji AbdulHamid Ibrahim, gave the figure when he submitted his report to the council Chairman, Alhaji Hashim Fagam.
Safiyanu said that the council received enough doses of Oral Polio Vaccines (OPVs), which had enhanced smooth conduct of the exercise.
He explained that the children were immunised against polio and other child-killer diseases during the five-day exercise.
The information officer commended traditional, religious leaders as well as other volunteer groups for their efforts in mobilising people to participate in the exercise.
Receiving the report, the council’s chairman expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance by parents.
Fagam also urged husbands to always allow their wives to visit health facility for antenatal and post natal.
He commended the head of every family unit in the area for allowing their wives to present their children for the routine immunisation.
