Dr Ibrahim said that the surgeries were conducted by a group of medical doctors in the Othopaedic Unit of the hospital.
The Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State has recently conducted the first Hip and Knee replacement surgeries since its inception in 1996, Dr Abdullahi Ibrahim has said.
Ibrahim, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.
He said that the surgeries were conducted by a group of medical doctors in the Othopaedic Unit of the hospital.
According to him, the replacement surgeries are conducted on two different patients.
Ibrahim said that the surgeries that lasted for some hours were conducted successfully and the patients would soon be discharged.
The CMD said that the management of the hospital was determined to provide qualitative health services at affordable costs to patients.
He explained that the hospital under his stewardship had employed 34 medical consultants that specialised in various field of medicine, while residency courses had since begun in the hospital.
Ibrahim said the hospital had enrolled 1,000 staff into the integrated payment system (IPPS) in line with the national policy and to ensure probity and accountability in the management of public funds.
He advised the staff of the hospital to channel their grievances to the management instead of resorting to unwholesome attitudes that may not solve their problems.
Ibrahim commended the Federal Government for transforming the health sector and advised the staff of the hospital to redouble their efforts in making the centre the first among equals.
It will be recalled that the FMC in Birnin Kebbi recently, constructed six additional patients wards and other medical units in its quests to achieve excellence in health services.
