The couple know the child’s sex, but have decided to keep it secret for now. Sullivan, broke the news when they were on a night out by teasingly telling him: “You know the office ... you are going to have to change it.”

Chuka said he intends to be a hands-on father and is storing up his sleep in readiness for late-night nappy changes and feeds. Although he lost his own father in a car accident when he was a teenager, he inherited his father’s work ethic and wants to pass it down to his own child. “My father was very focused and did not let others set boundaries for him,” he said.

Chuka also said: “My mother’s capacity to make common cause with anyone regardless of their background is also something I’d like to pass on.”
