A SECOND US worker at a Liberian hospital
has been infected with the deadly ebola
virus, an aid group said today.
Hygienist Nancy Writebol tested positive at
the same medical compound where US
doctor Kent Brantly became infected, said
Ken Isaacs, vice-president of the
programme run by Christian relief group
Samaritan's Purse.
Both Ms Writebol and Dr Brantly, who is
medical director at the centre on the
outskirts of the capital Monrovia, had been
isolated and were under intensive
treatment, Mr Isaacs said.
Dr Brantly was stable but in a very serious
condition and Ms Writebol was stable and in
a serious condition, he said.
The highly contagious ebola virus is one of
the most deadly diseases in the world. The
World Health Organisation said that this
outbreak was the most serious ever
recorded and has killed more than 670
people in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone
since it began.
