Amaechi Vows To Expose Looters Of Public Treasury… Dares Opponents To Do Same

The Rivers State governor, Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has described his political opponents as lazy people with failed careers, adding that all those who had endlessly stayed in the corridors of power in the state, should endeavour to find other jobs to do.

This was part of his remarks on Tuesday in an address at the opening ceremony of the Port Harcourt Book Festival.
Specifically, the governor mentioned the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and erst-while acting deputy national chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Chibudum Nwuche to stop playing politics of calumny.
“There is a political crisis in Rivers State. What is the political crisis about: people who have retired from politics and those that are about to retire, they have failed. They are saying ‘if we don’t grab power, hunger will set-in’. And I said ‘you are all graduates with degrees. If you don’t have a chamber to practice your law, tell us to open one for you so you can win cases for Rivers State’”.
Mr. Amaechi went ahead to say, “Chibudum Nwuche is a lawyer. Why is he not practicing law and tell us what case he has won? Chibudum Nwuche is from a rich background; go and build on your father’s wealth”.
The Governor, who said he would soon open up on all the events that led to the political crises in the oil-rich state, advised the people to shun political godfathers.
His words, “Rivers people need to rise and say to ourselves, no more god-fatherism. Let the Governor rule and make his decisions. Instead, you have had people who have served as Deputy Speakers, those who have served in one office or the other but they have refused to go”.

He condemned the impunity with which political office holders were looting the treasury, adding that he was ready to name and shame those who had stolen public money just as he said that whoever felt he had stolen from the treasury should do the same.
“I will tell them how much they have stolen and let them show me the one I have stolen; we will start it from there”, he said.
The governor also tasked creative writers to always ask leaders questions on their stewardship and wondered why no one had written or asked questions on the N2.3 trillion fuel subsidy money allegedly stolen by oil marketers.
Mr. Amaechi stated that he was not opposed to criticism and advised people in positions of leadership to always bear it at the back of their minds that they must be accountable for their actions.
He, therefore, pledged N3 billion for the completion of a multipurpose creative village which will have a writers’ resort, library, exhibition hall and theatre complex in support of writers and culture workers.
