The commissioner added that the planned free medical outreach would complement the Rapid Results Initiative introduced by the Federal Ministry of Health.
The Kogi Government on Sunday said a special healthcare package had been approved to give free medical treatment to over 50, 000 patients across the state.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Audu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja that the initiative entails a medical outreach for patients in five designated centres across the three senatorial districts of the state.
“About 50,000 patients are expected to benefit from the following services: free major and minor surgical operations, free medical treatments and eye care (surgeries and distribution of free glasses).
“Others are free paediatric care, gynaecological care, laboratory investigations, free HIV, hepatitis B & C screening and other medical checkup, health tips, education and enlightenment.
“The event will last for two weeks and has been scheduled to commence from July 27 in Lokoja, Okene, Kabba, Ankpa and Idah local government areas.
“The recent economic downturn across the country including Kogi in particular has made it difficult for people to afford even basic health care services.
“Our goal is to provide succour to such indigent patients and we are determined never to renege on our promise to ensure quality and effective healthcare delivery to the good people of Kogi,” Audu said.
The commissioner added that the planned free medical outreach would complement the Rapid Results Initiative introduced by the Federal Ministry of Health.
He said that this was in line with the New Direction Blueprint of the administration in the state, adding that government was poised to implement policies which were in tune with those of the Federal Government.
